The 4 Universal Safety Rules

  • TREAT: All guns are always loaded.
  • NEVER: Point the muzzle at anything you aren't willing to destroy.
  • KEEP: Your finger off the trigger until sights are on target.
  • BE SURE: Of your target and what is beyond it.

Handguns: Overview

  • Semi-Automatics: Use a magazine and slide.
  • Revolvers: Use a rotating cylinder.
  • Primary Use: Concealed carry and personal protection.

Handguns: Loading & Unloading

Step-by-Step (Pistol)

  1. Insert Magazine firmly until it clicks.
  2. Pull the slide fully to the rear and release.
  3. To Unload: Drop magazine FIRST, then rack slide.
  4. Lock slide back and physically/visually inspect the chamber.

AR-15 Style Rifles

  • The Modern Sporting Rifle.
  • Lightweight, low recoil, and highly modular.
  • Components: Upper/Lower receivers, Bolt Carrier, Safety Selector.

Defensive Shotguns

  • The Spread: At indoor ranges, patterns are very tight (approx. 2-5 inches).
  • Components: Magazine Tube, Forend (Pump), Loading Port.
